30 Day Book Challenge - Day 2: My Favourite Series of Books

Tuesday 22 April 2014

I didn't even have to think about this one. My favourite series of books is without a doubt J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. These books brought me so much pleasure as a kid it's unreal. I would wish for hours on end a Hogwarts letter would arrive (still waiting...). I remember when the series of books got delivered to my junior school classroom and there was literally a fight over who would get to read them first. (Don't remember my classmates being massive readers...)

I then became obsessed with Harry Potter to the point where one Christmas pretty much every other present I got was Harry Potter related. When I was younger I'd have presents downstairs and a sack of presents at the end of my bed. In the sack were the first three books, Philosopher's Stone for the PS1, a Harry Potter torch and a book reading light within a snitch. I remember this Christmas as if it was yesterday, I woke up at 2am, opened the presents and played Philosopher's Stone until 6am when my mum caught me and we all went down to open the rest of the presents.

I then spent most of Christmas reading the books and then most of Christmas night reading the books with my snitch book light. I also remember the very first time I went to see Philosopher's Stone at the Odeon. I don't think I've ever enjoyed seeing a film for the first time so much, it was just so magical to see my favourite books on the screen and I think I managed to tag along with quite a few family members to see it over and over again.

The books I bought on release were Goblet of Fire which I bought from Tesco, Order of the Phoenix which my dad went to town and got from Waterstone's and then woke me up with it, Half-Blood Prince which me and my uncle left a family party for to go and buy at midnight and Deathly Hallows which I stupidly bought online and had to wait till lunchtime to be delivered! I was sitting by the front door all day waiting for the post!

Since then I have reread the books countless times, I couldn't even tell you how much. If I could only read one series of books for the rest of my life it would be this. They must be the only books you could read finish reading and then straight away read all over again and not get bored. Truly a magical and fantastic series of books and I know we shouldn't tell people what to read but people who don't like the series or have never read them are quite frankly, stupid!
